With October upon us, it’s now not possible to generate Vitamin D from sun exposure, that will only start again around April. So in winter it’s essential to support your health through supplementation. Vitamin D is still poorly understood by many, what we do know is that it:

-Boost/regulate Immune Health
-Helps with Cardiovascular problems
-Regulate blood sugars
-Help to create strong bones
-Helps with muscle pain
-Increases the absorption of Iron, Magnesium, Zinc and Phosphate
-Almost every single cell in your body has a Vitamin D receptor

Aside from insufficient sun exposure, there are many health problems that can also reduce your absorption, including (but not limited to) gut inflammation, stress, kidney & liver problems, diabetes related changes, stomach acid, medications, skin colour and and. We do always recommend regular testing when you supplement, since high blood calcium can sometimes result from excess Vitamin D.

How to boost your Vitamin D:

-Get 1 hour of Sun per day (without burning)
-Take your Vitamin D with FAT or a meal + enough magnesium/Zinc
-A 1000IU might hold your blood levels, but won’t increase them. You may need to take up to 10.000IU daily to increase and maintain your levels (test regularly)
-Healthy Ketogenic diet + Intermittent fasting.
-Consume more fatty fish and/or Cod liver oil
-Take vitamin D in a liquid form combined with Vitamin K2.
-If you have a genetic problem with VitD absorption, take higher dosage
